Hi YAFs,

Two Friends from Kenya will be traveling in New England this week and
next week, and various Meetings around Boston, New Hampshire and Maine
are hosting events designed to make it easy to meet them and chat with
them. Many of you may know of this already given your connections with
the World Gathering of Young Friends (or actually having *been* at the
WGYF!), especially the version in Kenya itself! Here is a chance for
some fellowship and some learning. Their schedule is at the bottom of
this message. Anyone is welcome to come over to the Meeting School on
Monday the 30th to meet them if that's a good date for you. I won't be
around until late Sunday night since I'll just be returning from Indiana
Yearly Meeting (hold me in the Light) but drop me an email if you want
to come to TMS. --Frederick Martin (frederick at meetingschool.org or

Marion Baker (the amazing woman who often wears a bonnet around New
England Yearly Meeting sessions) is hosting them and she said I could
re-post this invitation to the YAF list. So here's her notice:

Just before YM sessions, two Kenyan women will be in the area in between
the USFW International Triennial in July and our NEYM sessions in August.

They are:
Mercelline Milembe, clerk of Vokoli YM USFW and
Zelika Galavu, Clerk of Kaimosi YM USFW

They will arrive in NH on Sunday night, 29th July. and I am willing to hosting them each evening, but making them available for visiting other Friends in the area each day until Yearly Meeting Sessions begin.

They are not coming to fundraise for any specific Aids orphans or widows project, thought they are both actively working on these issues. They are here to visit and share their spiritual journeys. They also love children and would be glad to share in song and stories with any children of any age.

Since the majority in FUM are East Africans, here is a chance to meet some FUM Quakers face to face, especially in the light that FUM will be one of the major topics at our YM sessions this year!

In our area, we are simply having people invited to an informal potluck or picnic at someone's house or just visit a family and invite others in for a cup of tea or dessert, not expecting any large groups or meetings that take a lot of planning or effort to organize. It could be a gathering or women, but could also include men and children.

Let me know on early next week what you have found out about possible events in your area. My phone is 603-478-5650 or you can just email me if it is easier.

    Thanks,
    Marian Baker,
    Clerk of USFW New England

Additional Notes:
Yes they both speak good English, so you'll not have trouble hearing them.
They are aware of the diversity in our yearly meeting.
Marian
