Position Available: Head of School


Friends School of Portland (FSP) is seeking its first Head of School.  FSP 
is a new independent day school arising from Quaker faith and practice and 
built upon long-held standards of exceptional Friends schools.  FSP opened 
its doors in September 2006 and expects to have approximately 50 students in 
the 2007-08 school year.  The school is located on beautiful Mackworth 
Island (connected by a causeway to the mainland), just minutes away from 
downtown Portland, a city with a national reputation for its quality of 
life.

The position will entail full-time administration of a PreKindergarden 
through Grade 8 program.  Desirable candidate qualifications and 
characteristics include:

·        Experienced in institutional direction setting and capacity 
building

·        Committed to and familiar with Quaker education, process and values

·        Skilled in supervision and staff development

·        Experienced in admissions, fundraising, and fiscal management

Applications will be reviewed by a Search Committee as they are received.  
The deadline is May 30, 2007, but interested candidates are asked to submit 
their applications as soon as possible so that interviews with the Search 
Committee and other FSP staff can be completed before the end of the current 
school year.  Duties will commence July 1, 2007, or as soon as the selected 
candidate is available.  Salary range is $55,000 - $65,000.  For an overview
