 From Her Excellence Sara Burke...

Hi all -

We are re-opening the search for a "Donor Services Coordinator" here
at the New England Regional Office of the American Friends Service
Committee. This is an interesting job with great growth potential,
three-fifths time with full benefits in a lively, friendly, leftist
office. Tough to beat, right? I'm on the hiring committee.

I've attached the job description, but here's my version. AFSC has
several separate programs in New England, which all do different
kinds of work (Criminal Justice, Peace & Economic Security, Urban
Youth, Peacework Magazine, etc.). Each of those programs is
responsible for raising some of the money that it takes to keep it
running, by sending out two fundraising appeal letters a year. The
Donor Service Coordinator is the person who helps this happen, by
creating the overall timeline for the appeals to be sent out, helping
staff write, edit, and send the letters, and tracking the results.
There's some writing involved, some database work, a lot of
organization, a lot of contact with program staff and encouraging/
supporting/nudging them to get the appeals done (when they would
rather be doing their program work.) In addition, there is room to
think creatively about other ways to raise funds - events, house
parties, phone drives, innovative appeals. There is also room, and
support, to learn about and incorporate successful non-profit
fundraising practice.

The person who will really enjoy and succeed at this job will bring
strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and a certain amount
of moneygrubbing tenacity -- but also vision, energy, and creativity.

The pay is not high, but the benefits are great and the position is
covered by our collective bargaining unit (we are a chapter of the
union UNITE-HERE). And it's a great place to work. And we REALLY NEED
SOMEONE. So if you are interested, please check it out - or if you
know someone who might be, please pass this along!

Peace
Sara Burke
