Dear friends,
This coming Thursday (3/20), I have a hearing with the IRS Appeals Office
because of my conscientious objection to military taxes. I am only allowed
to bring one person into the room with me, but I would really appreciate
prayers and love from other folks too. The hearing will be at 10 am, and if
anyone wants to come and have Meeting for Worship at 8:30, and/or continue
Meeting for Worship outside the Appeals Office, and/or get together for
lunch afterwards, let me know.
Love,
Katherine
P.S. Background info: Over the last several years, I have discovered that
I am a conscientious objector to participation in war, and it violates my
religious conscience to pay taxes that support military activity. I did not
pay my taxes last April, and received a series of letters from the IRS, and
was given the opportunity to request an appeal. This is not tax court, it's
one step below, an internal hearing with an IRS officer. It is likely that
my taxes will eventually be seized, along with additional fines. I am
voluntarily choosing these consequences, rather than violating my
conscience.
