Be not afraid:
Embracing Passion, Love & Praise as Friends
with
Peter Blood-Patterson
at Friends Meeting at Cambridge
tuition $30
$35 if paid at the workshop
"Entirely fearless; absurdly happy; and always in
trouble." Shouldn't that quote from Dr. Maltby describe
us Quakers? Yet, the only one of those three qualities
we seem to lay claim to is "always in trouble." (Whether
we deserve to claim that is a question for another time.)
Is this kind of faith consistent with deep respect
for the beliefs and experiences of others? with
disciplined spiritual practices? Why do many Friends
seem cautious and held back both with each other and
with the outside world? How would our faith community be
changed if we let go of self-imposed limits,
expectations and fears that keep us from fully knowing
this aspect of our spirituality?
Drawing on the Bible, the poetry of Rumi and Hafiz,
and other spiritual writings, Peter will seek to
challenge us and open doors in us to fuller, more
trusting life in God. The retreat will include worship
sharing, discussion, individual journaling and song.
*Peter Blood-Patterson* has written, taught and led
retreats for Friends for over 30 years. He is a
graduate of the two year training program in spiritual
direction at the Shalem Institute for Spiritual
Formation, a member of Mt Toby Meeting and a member of
the NEYM Working Group on Sexuality and Spirituality.
Friends enjoyed his workshop on the Bible at New England
Yearly Meeting in 2007. (Yes, Peter is co-editor of
Rise up Singing!)
